I no longer have time to hand-letter envelopes due to the volume of my website orders. Enjoy my personalized thoughts on Love.

CALLIGRAPHY FOR WEDDINGS

ENVELOPE ETIQUETTE

When addressing invitations, avoid abbreviating words, except Mr. and Mrs., or Dr. It is not necessary to use middle names. You may use "Mr. and Mrs." or "Mr. & Mrs." The "&" was invented in 57 B.C.! If the guest is in a relationship, list the other person's name on the envelope. If the person is single, but wishing to bring a guest, do not include on outside envelope. Write: "Mr. Doe and Guest" on the inside envelope. Do not use first names on the inside envelope, unless you wish informal titles to be used such as, "Uncle John and Guest," or "Mom and Dad."  Children in a family are listed on the inside envelope only.
NOTE:If you have only one envelope, you must address it with "and Guest...and Family."

Postal regulations include the state in the Postal Zip Code. It is not necessary to write out the state.  There is no period after the state, as it is part of the code. Writing out the state name was suggested in the early 1900's, long before zip codes.

If you will be sending invitations to military guests, check the protocol for their titles; this differs in each branch of the service.

Before selecting a calligrapher, be sure to see samples of his/her work. I can fax several to you if you wish.

For the calligrapher, you should have your list of names and addresses printed as they would be on the envelope, under one another, not on a single line.. Add the names to be lettered on the inside envelope. These are usually "Ms. Johnson"--no first name, less formally, "Aunt Mary."
Be sure to buy extra envelopes in case you have forgotten someone, and also to give the calligrapher some extras for human error.

Avoid metallic linings, as they make the envelope opaque and difficult see the guide lines for the calligraphy.

The calligrapher is not responsible for correcting spelling errors or making any changes which you have not o.k'd. If the calligrapher makes an error, it will be corrected at no cost to you. I have my work proof read twice in order to reduce any possiblity of error.

I am a full service calligrapher and will be happy to add more addresses if you do not have them initially. I guarantee the highest quality calligraphy. If you wish to have your envelopes sealed against the rain (or snow), there is a charge of $.20 per envelope.
